The aim of PKI is to ensure the highest level of security in systems based on public key cryptography. The concept of security has evolved in recent years, leading to the emergence of a group of four properties defining the necessary conditions for considering a service secure: authentication, integrity, confidentiality, and non-repudiation.

PKI Environment Components

PKI manages all events related to the circulation of public key certificates through an organized structure of objects, operations, and procedures. The fundamental PKI objects include Registration Authorities (RA) and Certification Authorities (CA), as well as various repositories of keys and certificates, and Certificate Revocation Lists (CRLs). These objects are accompanied by operations such as user registration, certificate issuance, cryptographic key pair generation, certificate validity extension, certificate revocation, certificate recovery from a secure repository, and many others. The entire process is governed by a set of rules regulating conduct in the PKI environment, known as security policies. 

Electronic Card and PKI

The PKI environment requires the presence of a secure medium for confidential information, which serves to identify the holder and authenticate their actions. The electronic card is currently the most widespread device in this category. Built by CryptoTech, public key infrastructure systems cooperate with the advanced CryptoCard Graphite card, which serves as a secure tool for working with data and privileges protected by public key certificates.
